Can the shades follow the sun automatically?+
Yes. We can program shades around the direction each window faces, the times direct sun reaches it and seasonal changes. Timed schedules and sunrise or sunset events provide a useful foundation. More advanced sun-position or light-responsive behavior may use additional programming, compatible sensors or integrations. We specify the approach for your property, then fine-tune the positions and timing with you.
Will motorized shades reduce my electricity costs?+
Appropriate shades used at the right times can reduce unwanted solar heat gain and the cooling demand it creates, which can help lower electricity costs. The result depends on fabric performance, window glass, orientation, fit, climate, thermostat settings and how the shades are used. Motorization makes a planned routine easier to follow consistently; it does not guarantee a specific bill reduction. We select the shading approach around both comfort and performance.
Can shades help protect furniture, flooring and artwork?+
Suitable fabrics help reduce UV and sunlight exposure that can contribute to fading of furnishings, flooring and finishes. Fabric properties, openness, coverage and the window glass all influence the result. We review the material’s published performance and the sun’s path through the room. Shading reduces exposure; it does not eliminate every cause of fading or damage.
Can you integrate the motorized shades I already have?+
Often, yes. Control4 supports integrations with many shade manufacturers, but we need to confirm the exact motor, controller or bridge and available driver. We review whether the system supports open and close commands, position control, feedback and grouping. Bring the brand and model information you have, and we will assess what can be incorporated into your home.
Can I still open and close the shades myself?+
Yes. Supported shades can be operated from the Control4 app, a touchscreen, keypad or compatible remote, individually or in groups. You can choose a view, change the light or bring privacy to a room with a simple command. We agree how manual changes interact with the next scheduled or automated action so the system behaves the way you expect.
Are solar shades private at night, and are blackout shades completely dark?+
Open-weave solar fabrics are designed to manage daylight and views; they should not be relied on for nighttime privacy when the interior is lit. Opaque privacy fabrics or a second shade layer are better suited to that need. Blackout fabric blocks light through the material, but light can still enter around its edges. For bedrooms and theaters, we consider the complete installation, including overlaps, side channels or additional treatments where appropriate.
Do shades work in scenes with lighting and entertainment?+
Yes. Compatible shades can join scenes such as Good Morning, Dinner, Movie Night and Good Night, alongside lighting and supported entertainment or climate settings. For example, Movie Night can lower the room’s shades, dim the lights and select your entertainment source. Scenes can be triggered by a button, a schedule or a supported system event, based on the programming designed for your home.
Can you install motorized shades in an existing home or on a patio?+
Yes. Battery-powered and suitable wired options can serve existing homes, while new construction offers the opportunity to plan concealed power and shade pockets early. Exterior solar screens require equipment designed for the opening, exposure and manufacturer’s operating limits. We coordinate measurements, mounting, access and any supported wind-response features as part of the outdoor design.
